Heywood Wakefield Wishbone Table
Fabricating and color-matching a new apron to an aged original — developing a custom Aged Heywood Wheat toner recipe to bridge sixty years in a single afternoon.
A Heywood Wakefield Wishbone table with a broken apron that needed to be fabricated from scratch — and then made to disappear next to sixty years of original patina.
The challenge is color theory: raw birch with cool undertones plus pure yellow toner pulls green. So the new apron got a bespoke toner blend — three drops TransTint Honey Amber to one drop TransTint Medium Brown per pint of thinned clear lacquer. The brown’s reddish undertone cancels the green and pushes the final color into Heywood Wakefield’s signature warm wheat.
Sprayed in sheer passes, flashed between coats, evaluated in natural light. When the clamps came off, you couldn’t tell where the new wood started.
